The Sacred Teachings
A happy Monday to you!
Today I am going to share a piece from a project I have been working on for a few years. The project is prose poetry working from translations of the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Medicine, the Neijing Suwen. What I will read today includes both quotations directly from the text and my own prose and commentary. It is called The Sacred Teachings as that is the name of the chapter from which the quotes are taken, Chapter 8, in the translation by Maoshing Ni.
The web is the image for how our body, mind and spirit are woven together, the heart at the center radiating out through substance and space. The text of the Yellow Emperor’s Classic is full of imagery and metaphor, it is a great work of poetry in fact. I am always inspired when I dip into its contents and realize how deeply the life of the spirit is embedded in these ancient words.
My own work is a work very much in progress. I would be delighted by any and all remarks on how such a work strikes you. Feel free to make comments publicly here on Substack or privately to me if you prefer.
Enjoy!
